What is

mHealth
 mhealth is short for mobile
health, the practice of medicine
and health care over mobile
devices, tablets, PDAs, and mobile
computers. As an industry, the
mhealth field has seen exponential
growth in recent years thanks to
widespread use in developing
nations and increasingly accessible
mobile technology.
 Many people are familiar with ehealth, the
branch of healthcare that makes use of
computers, emails, satellite communications
and monitors. mhealth technology performs
similar functions, such us obtaining vital signs,
delivering information to doctors and allowing
remote exams, on tablets, cell phones and
other portable devices
mhealth focuses in obtaining
information immediately to
diagnose illnesses, track diseases
and provide timely information
to the public in underserved
countries.
Mobile health is especially
important in remote areas
where doctors and nurses may
not be present to provide
treatment.
What are the
Advantage and
Disadvantage
of mhealth
Medication Alerts-Through efficient mhealth app
development, medication reminders can ensure
that patients are reminded at the scheduled time to
take their prescribed medication.

Self-Monitoring of Health -When a healthcare

mobile app is embedded with the right tools and
technology, patients can take responsibility for
monitoring their own health and reduce the
pressure on the healthcare organization.
Appointment Scheduling: Instead of leaving this
burden on the administrative staff of the
healthcare organization, appointments can be
scheduled directly by the patients on the
healthcare mobile app.

Time saving- through mobile technology

instead of having to go to the clinic, patient
may be able to have certain test done using
the mobile healthcare
Reduce Healthcare Expenses- mobile technology
allow users to continuously track and manage
certain health data without having to see their
healthcare provider to spend money on hospital
bills.

Paperless information- going paperless not only

cuts office and hospital supply costs and reduces
wastage, it also lowers doctor’s office clutter and
helps keep all patient data secure and in the right
place.
Inaccurate information- When tested, these
apps often give varying results or cannot get a
reading at all, but rarely is there a warning that
the information provided is untested and
potentially unreliable

Lack of regulation and approval- Be sure to have

them review any privacy policies to see how their
information may be used and whether the app has
been approved or is regulated by the FDA.
Too reliant- many users of mHealth apps
are choosing to use them instead of
seeking professional help.

Data privacy- Only half of the apps

linked to a privacy policy, which typically
explains what personal information is
gathered and if data is shared with or
sold to third parties.
Quantity doesn’t mean Quality- most
companies don’t conduct a study to
determine if their app actually helped users
change or improve their behavior.
Are patients and
clinicians ready
to embrace
mhealth
 The use of mHealth in clinical photo provides
numerous advantages, including increased
effectiveness and efficiency improved patient
safety and quality of care, improved data security
and validation, and improved accessibility. It has
the potential to improve clinical workflow and
quality of care. Technology providers, clinicians,
and decision makers should collaborate to
address any barriers to adoption and fully realize
the potential of these tools.
 Patients are now seeking a combination of in-person
and virtual medical services. Patients' attitudes and
willingness to use mHealth tools to improve their health
have changed. patients are ready to incorporate mHealth
and technology into their medication regimen.
Accessibility is the primary motivator and driving factor
behind the adoption of virtual healthcare services.
 Many doctors are eagerly embracing mHealth. As
their patients increasingly rely on apps and devices,
physicians understand that they cannot afford to fall
behind the mHealth revolution. They also recognize that
patient-centered care progression is here to stay, and
presume mHealth gives patients a powerful arsenal of
resources to be more active partners in their care. While
not without challenges, mHealth provides a channel for
both providers and patients to improve communication,
care, and, ultimately, health outcomes.
