• Unemployment refers to a situation where a person actively
searches for employment but is unable to find work.
• It is used as a measure of the health of the economy
• Person is capable and willing to work

• Unemployment rate is calculated as:-
• = no of area residents without a job and looking for work / total
no area residents in the labor force
