INTRODUCTION
• The final stage in strategic management is strategy evaluation and control. All
strategies are subject to future modification because internal and external factors are
constantly changing.
• In the strategic evaluation and control process managers determine whether the chosen
strategy is achieving the organization’s objectives.
• The fundamental strategy evaluation and control activities are: Reviewing internal and
external factors that are the bases for current strategies, measuring performance and
taking corrective actions.
• Strategic evaluation operates at two levels: strategic and operational.
• Strategic level is concerned with the consistency of strategy with the environment and
at operational level, the effort is directed at assessing how well the organization is
pursuing a given strategy
STRATEGIC EVALUATION

• Strategic Evaluation is simply the process of collecting information about how well the
strategic plan is progressing
• Strategic Evaluation is defined as the process of determining the effectiveness of a given
strategy in achieving the organizational objectiveness and taking corrective action
whenever required.
• Evaluation makes sure that the organizational strategy as well as it’s implementation
meets the organizational objectives.
• Evaluation should initiate managerial questioning of expectations and assumptions,
should trigger a review of objectives and values and should stimulate creativity in
generating alternatives and formulating criteria of evaluation

IMPORTANCE OF STRATEGIC EVALUATION
• Check the validity of the strategic choices the organization makes
• Assess whether the decisions made during the strategy implementation stage meet the
intended strategy requirements
• Provide insight and experience into the strategists that can be used in reformulating or
planning new strategies 
• Shed light on issues caused by changes in the internal and external environment and take
precautions and avoid making wrong decisions
• Has the ability to coordinate the tasks performed by individual managers, groups, division
or SBUs through the control of performance.
• Through its process of control, feedback, rewards and review helps in a successful
culmination of the strategic management process
