VIRUSES
Viruses are very small microorganisms
antibiotics.
Structure of the virus
Virus consists basically of a core of
nucleic acid (DNA or RNA) by a protein
coat (Capsid).
VIRION: The intact virus particle.
CAPSID: The protein content.
NUCLEIC ACID:
can be DNA OR RNA
Envelope: The particles of
main viruses are
surrounded by a further
layer lipoprotein envelope
containing viral antigens
but also partly derived from
the plasma or the nuclear
membrane of the host.
Shape of virus
Virus particles show three types of
symmetry.
CUBIC: The particles are icosahedra
