GAIT AND

POSTURE
ANALYSIS

About my • My patient is a 79-year-old female who has
rheumatoid arthritis in her hands, elbows,
patient: shoulders, knees and ankles. She had undergone
many surgeries within the past 20 years . She is
currently employed where she works 3 days out of
the week. My patient does a lot of sitting when
she is not at work and says when she is sitting her
pain is at a 0, but when she starts to walk or stand
for long periods of time her pain increases in her
lower back. My patient still dresses and grooms
herself independently, she does her own laundry
Surgeries: which requires her to walk up and down 14 stairs,
• 2000 4th and 5th vertebrae in lumbar
• 2007 R knee replacement and she takes her granddaughter to school 4x a
• 2011 1st vertebrae in lumbar week. The one thing she cannot do is put her left
• 2019 L knee replacement sock because her left arm does not extend fully.
• Hands for carpal tunnel
Test & Measures:

• ROM: MMT:
• Knee extension: R: -4˚ L: -8˚ knee extension (quad strength):
• Hip extension: R: 11˚ L: 10˚ R: 1/5 (gravity eliminated)
• Plantarflexion: R: 27˚ L: 33˚ L: 3+/5 (gravity resisted)
• Thomas Test - Positive
• TUG Test- 17 seconds (fall risk)
Crouch Gait and Lack
of knee extension:
Interventions:

Quad Sets
- 2 sets 10 reps, hold time 3 seconds
Interventions:

Supine Knee Extension

- 4 sets hold for 30 seconds


Interventions:

Seated Lumbar Back Extension

- 4 sets, hold for 30 seconds
