Regular physical activity is proven to help prevent and manage non-
communicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and
several cancers.

Benefits of regular physical activity


If you are regularly physically active, you may:
• reduce your risk of a heart attack
• manage your weight better
• have a lower blood cholesterol level

A number of studies have found that exercise helps depression.
There are many views as to how exercise helps people with
depression:
• Exercise may block negative thoughts or distract you from daily worries.
• Exercising with others provides an opportunity for increased social
contact.

Aim for at least 30 minutes a day


To maintain health and reduce your risk of health problems, health
professionals and researchers recommend a minimum of 30
minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity on most,
preferably all, days.

People who do not do sufficient physical activity have a greater risk of
cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and osteoporosis. Being physically
active improves mental and musculoskeletal health and reduces other risk
factors such as overweight and obesity, high blood pressure, and high blood
cholesterol.

Training too hard or fast is a common cause of sports-related injuries.


Consult with your gym instructor, coach, sporting association, exercise
physiologist or physiotherapist for instruction on how to exercise safely.
Potentially harmful exercises include bouncing while stretching, standing toe-
touches, full squats, straight-legged sit-ups and double leg raises.

Stop exercise immediately if you are injured and seek medical advice before
starting exercise again.

Wellness is a dynamic process of gaining knowledge and actively making
choices that lead to a healthier and more meaningful existence.
It is the complete integration of physical, mental, and spiritual health. and It is
the result of an understanding the interaction that determines one's quality of
life.

Fitness is the capacity to do a physical task or the absence of a physical


ailment, and it is defined as the ability to execute a physical task or the
absence of a bodily ailment. Nutrition, strength, conditioning, flexibility, and
body composition are commonly addressed. Wellness approaches cover the
physical, mental, emotional, psychological, sexual, financial, social, and spiritual
aspects of our existence.

Physical wellbeing is recognizing the importance of physical activity,


nutritious diets, and adequate sleep, as well as avoiding illness and injury
and treating chronic illnesses.

An example of wellness is eating correctly and exercising every day.

When it comes to living a fit life, there are rules that always apply—regardless
of your ultimate goal.
