• About the Writing exam
– Task 1 – Describing a table, chart, diagram or
process using evidence from the graphic provided,
20 minutes; minimum 150 words
IELTS Writing
• IELTS examiners are looking for four different things:
• Vocabulary: you need to have a good range of
academic words and phrases for the main IELTS topics
• Grammar: you need to use accurate grammar and a
range of complex structures (such as relative clauses,
noun phrases, conditionals)
• Organization: you need to write clear, well-organized
paragraphs, and an answer which is easy to follow
• Ideas and arguments: you need to make sure you
have well-developed ideas, that you answer the
question fully and that you give a clear point of view
IELTS Writing
• In this session: Understanding and interpreting
data; re-writing the introduction; writing an
overview
• Task 1-
– Identifying and ordering key trends;
– Writing an Overview of visual data questions
– Describing trends; language for describing changes
