Bag Technique
a tool making use of a public health bag through

which the nurse during his home visit, can

perform nursing procedures with ease, saving

time and effort with the end view of rendering

effective nursing care

RATIONALE:
To render effective nursing care clients and/or

members of the family during home visit


PURPOSES
• To prevent spread of infection from one patient to

another and from one place to another by keeping

the bag and its contents clean as possible

• To demonstrate the principles of cleanliness to

patients and family members by using the bag in

orderly way

• To carry out selected, procedure, demonstrations,

teaching and follow up services for patients and

family members.

PRINCIPLE
• Performing the bag technique will prevent or if not,

minimize the spread of any infection.

• It saves time and effort in the performance of nursing

procedures.

• The bag technique should show the effectiveness of

total care given to an individual or family

• The bag technique can be performed in a variety of

ways depending on the Agency's policy, the home

situation or as long as principles of avoiding transfer

of infection is always observed.


IMPORTANT POINTS TO CONSIDER IN BAG TECHNIQUE

• The bag should contain all the necessary

articles, supplies and equipment that will be

used to answer emergency needs.

• The bag and its contents should be cleaned

often, the supplies replaced and ready for use

anytime.

REMINDERS
Check the bag before leaving for home visit.

No meddling of the content without washing hands.

Open only when required.

Bag should be kept at the proper place.

Bag should be thoroughly cleaned.

Bag must be free from dust and disinfected from time to time.

Personal items should not be kept in the bag.

It is essential to change the bag from time to time.

Soiled and dirty things should be properly disinfected.

Work done should be recorded in the family folder or daily register
