Module 1
EXPLORING RANDOM
VARIABLES
Probability
- the measure of how likely a particular event occur
Experiment
- It refers to an activity in which the results cannot be
predicted with certainly.
Sample space
- Is a set (S) that contains all possible outcomes of
experiment.
Outcome
- Is a possible result of an experiment or trial.
Random Variables
May be viewed as a way to map outcome of statistical experiment
determined by chance into a number. It is set whose element are
numbers assigned to the outcomes of an experiment. It is denoted
to a capital letter usually x.
Such as;
• Tossing a coin three times
X= { 2,4,6}
