PROBLEM OF

CLIMATE
CHANGE IN
THE MIDDLE
EAST
By Kristina, Taliya, Natalia, Francesca
and Rafael
What is the issue?
 Climate change is a major global issue
affecting countries all over the world,
including the Middle East.
 In addition to being a dry, hot biome,
the region is facing a number of climate-
related challenges, such as rising
temperatures, decreasing precipitation,
and extreme weather events.
 These changes are affecting the region’s
natural systems, such as water resources,
agriculture, and biodiversity, and as a
result, climate change not only has a
negative impact on the Middle East’s
economy, but also on the living
conditions of its population
WHY IS CLIMATE CHANGE A
PROBLEM?
● Climate change has serious and far-
reaching consequences in the Middle
East.
● The region is already experiencing
hotter temperatures, an increase in
insect pests as well as rise of
diseases, water scarcity, and more
frequent droughts, which is causing crop
yields to decline and food prices to
rise, causing the economy to suffer.
● As a result , these changes are
amplifying social and political tensions
that are current in the Middle East
resulting in posing threats to both
regional security as well as stability
WHO IS
BEING
AFFECTED?
• Climate change is having an impact on
everyone in the Middle East, from
individuals and communities to
businesses and governments.
• However, because of limited resources
and access to information and
services, not only are the local
business struggling due to the fact
that harvests have been a victim of
Climate Change yet  vulnerable
populations such as the poor, women,
and children are undoubtedly also
affected.
Where is Climate Change
• taking place?
Climate change is affecting
the entire Middle East,
particularly Iraq, Syria,
Lebanon, Jordan, Israel,
and Palestinian
territories.
• These countries are already
facing numerous challenges,
such as political
insecurity, economic
hardship, and conflict, all
of which are aggravated by
climate change impacts due
to their biomes.
How is this issue being
addressed?
 To address the effects of climate
change in the Middle East, both
short-term and long-term solutions
are being pursued.
 In the short term, efforts are being
made to increase the resilience of
communities and infrastructure to
climate impacts by developing early
warning systems, better water
management practices such as
increasing hydroponics production as
well as aquifer production, and
increased support for agriculture
and food security.
 Long-term efforts are aimed at
lowering greenhouse gas emissions
and transitioning to a low-carbon
economy, which entails investing in
renewable energy, improving energy
efficiency, and implementing
sustainable development practices.
CAN THIS ISSUE BE RESOLVED
WITHOUT CAUSING HARM TO
● FUTURE GENERATIONS?
The challenge of addressing climate change in the
Middle East and around the world is complex,
requiring a collaborative effort from all sectors of
society.
● While there is no definite solution, addressing
climate change while protecting future generations
is possible. This entails making long-term
investments in sustainable development practices as
well as ensuring that future policies are designed
with future generations’ needs in mind. It also
necessary to take immediate action to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the effects of
climate change, while also strengthening communities
and natural systems’ resilience.
● Several Middle Eastern countries, including the
United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, have made
significant investments in renewable energy,
particularly solar and wind power.
 They’ve also put policies and regulations
in place to encourage the use of energy-
efficient technologies and practices, such
as building codes that promote energy-
efficient construction.
 Moreover, international cooperation and
collaboration are critical in resolving the
Middle East’s climate change crisis.

 Countries in the region are

collaborating and cooperating with
countries all over the world to
develop solutions to the
challenges posed by climate
change.
 For example, the UAE hosted the
Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, one
of the world’s largest
sustainability events, where
leaders from various sectors
gathered to discuss and implement
solutions to environmental
challenges such as climate
change.
Taking all these
points into
consideration, it is
vital to reduce carbon
emissions and help
with Climate Change,
not only for our
benefit, yet for a
better future, of our
humanity.
