Introduction:
 The Mughal Dynasty ruled India for 300 years.
 Babar, the founder of this dynasty was later

succeeded by his son Humayun.


 Humayun was a weak and incompetent ruler

and he lost his empire for 15 years to a brave


and courageous Afghan warrior Sher Khan.
 He ruled from Delhi and established “The Sur

Dynasty”.
 Before he became king, he worked for the
Mughal Governor of Bihar.
 One day the governor was out hunting when a

tiger appeared and was about to attack him.


 He killed the tiger with his bare hands and

thus came to be known as Sher Khan for his


brave act.
Achievements & contribution of
Sher Shah for Subcontinent
 He was the first to make the grand Trunk Road
or Sark e Azam from Bengal to Kabul.
 The Sarayas were constructed at every mile

and a half for the traders and travellers to rest.


 He planted trees including fruit trees along the

road for the travellers.


 He issued a coin called Rupiah.
 Kos Minars were used as distance markers.
 The Sarayas were used as Dak Chaukis. The
letters were carried by horse riders.
 The courts( Dar ul Adalat) were established to

maintain justice and the cases were decided by


the Qazi.
 Local government bodies were developed.
 Sher Shah is called the greatest ruler of India

and the Mughals adopted his administrative


ideas to govern India.
