Cigarettes & Alcoholism

• Cigarettes – tobacco smoking and its detrimental health effects has long
been a problem in our society.

• Cigarette smoke contains four thousand chemicals, including cancer-


causing ( Carcinogen) compounds like nicotine 9 bug sprays and
insecticicdes, tar ( roads), ammonia (cleaning products), hydrogen
cyanide ( gas chamber) arsenic ( rat poison), carbon monoxide (car
exhaust), and formaldehyde ( preserving cadavers).
Why people do not smoke.
1.It is unhealthy. It is incredibly addictive, especially when
people starts in their teens.
2.Makes clothes smell and teeth yellowish.
3.It is draining money.
4.It affects one’s athletic ability.
5.It affects one’s state of mind.
6.It is a threat to one’s future.
7.They value life.

Dangers of Mainstream, Secondhand, and Thirdhand Smoke
Nonsmokers have become increasingly aware that inhaling tobacco smoke from another
person’s cigarette and cigar ( second hand smoke) can pose serious health risks. The
process of smoking cigarette produces three (3) different types of tobacco smoke.

 First main stream smoke


 Second is exhaled mainstream smoke
 Thirdhand smoke
The first main stream smoke, the smoke directly inhaled through the burning
cigarette by the smoker.

Second is exhaled mainstream smoke, the smoke breathed out by the smoker
from his or her lungs. The Third is sidestream smoke, smoke that drifts from
the end of the lit cigarette. Second hand smoke or environmental tobacco
smoke (ETS) consists of exhaled mainstream smoke and side stream smoke.

Thirdhand smoke consists of the tobacco reside from cigarrete, cigars and
other tobacco products that are left behind after smoking.
Protective and Risk Factors of Alcoholism

Alcohol- There are interconnected factors that may lead to


alcoholism and alcohol abuse. Among these are genetics, family
upbringing, social environment and emotional health. People who
have a family history of alcoholism or who associate closely with
heavy drinkers have greater chances of developing drinking
drinking problems.
Reasons for Drinking
1.Influence of parents and other adults
2.Exposure to media
3.Escape from boredom
4.Lack of confidence
Reasons for Not drinking Alcohol
1.Wholesome family life
2.Active in socio-civic organizations
3.Desire to have a healthy lifestyle.
Health Impact of Drinking Alcohol
People who are heavy alcohol drinkers even for a
short period of time may put themselves at risk of
alcohol poisoning. This can seriously damage mental
health. This can lead to symptoms of depression and
exacerbate existent problems. Intoxication makes
people act impulsively, and this interferes with their
ability to make good decisions.
