Albinism
:A person or animal
born with a medical
condition that results
in a very pale
skin,white hair and
pink eyes
 :Albinism is an inherited condition
that leads to someone having
verylight skin,hair,and eyes.
 It happens because they have less
melanin than usual in their body.
Melanin gives skin,hair, and eyes
their color. Except for vision
problems,most people with albinism
are just as healthy as anyone else
-Albinism is a rare genetic
condition caused by mutations of
certain genes that affect the amount
of melanin your body produces.
-Melanin controls
pigmentation(color)of your skin,
eyes and hair.People with albinism
have extremely pale skin, eyes and
hair.
-Albinism affects the production
of melanin,the pigment that
colours skin,hair and eyes. It’s a
lifelong condition,but does not
get worse over time. People with
albinism have a reduced amount
of melanin,or no melanin at all.
This can affect their colouring
and their eyesight.
There are 2 main types of albinism.
These are:
 Oculocutaneous Albinism (OCA)- The
most common type,affecting the skin,
hair and eyes.

 Ocular Albinism (OA) – A rarer type

that mainly affects the eyes.
Oculocutaneous Albinism(OCA)

 Affecting the eyes, skin, and hair.

 People with this type of albinism
have white or pink hair skin, and
iris color, as well as vision
problems.
 Most severe type.
Ocular Albinism(OA)

-Affecting the eyes only.

-Skin color is usually normal or
slightly lighter than the skin of
other family members.
-Eye color may be in the normal
range but there is no pigment in the
retina.
