Basic errors in training

The principles of training are guidelines that can be

used to customize a training program. A deviation
from, or inappropriate application of these guidelines,
has consequences that can negatively affect
performance. Common basic errors in training that
detract from achieving peak performances include the
following:
• Recovery is neglected
• Demands on the athletes are made too quickly

After a break in training because of illness or injury,
the training load is increased too quickly
• High volume of maximal and submaximal
training;
• Overall volume of intense training is too high
when the athlete is training for endurance events;
• Excessive time is devoted to technical or mental
aspects, without adequate recovery;
• Excessive number of competitions – this
includes frequent disturbances of the daily routine
and insufficient training time that accompanies
competition;
• Bias of training methodology; and
• The athlete has a lack of trust of the coach
because of inaccurate goal setting.
