Child Protection Policies

DepEd Order No. 40, s. 2012
Zero tolerance policy for any act of child abuse,exploitation , violence,
discrimination, bullying and other forms of abuse.
Corporal punishment
Refers to punishment or penalty for an offense, carried
out for the purpose of discipline,training or control,
inflicted by an adult.

Absolutely prohibited under the Family Code Article

233 – “ in no case shall the school administrator, teacher
or individual engaged in child care and exercising
special parental authority, inflict corporal punishment.
Examples of Corporal Punishment
 Blows
 Pinching
 Pulling child’s hair/ ears
 Forcing a child through the use
power,authority/threats to perform physically
painful/ damaging act
 Delibrately neglecting child’s physical need
 Forcing a childs to perform hazardous act tasks as
punishment
 Confining a child in a contained or enclosed space
 Verbally assaulting/threatening/intimidating a child
EFFECTS OF CORPORAL PUNISHMENT

 Long term disability or death

 Depression
 Impaired cognitive and socio-emotional
development
 Poor moral internalization
 Increased in aggression
 Increased of acceptance and use of other
forms of violence.
 Damaged family relationship
PREVENTION:

 Capacity Building activities for

Teaching and Non-Teaching
Personnel
 Implementation of Awareness
Raising Activities.
ADMINISTRATIVE LIABILITY

In section 75 of manual of Regulation of

Private Schools provides that:

Section 1 – Imposition of Disciplinary Action

School officials and academic personnel shall have the
right to impose the appropriate and reasonable
disciplinary measures in case of minor offenses or
infractions of good school discipline. However, no cruel
or physical harmful punishment shall be imposed or
applied against any pupil.
Administrative Sanctions:

 Dismissal from service
