 WHAT IS A MASTER FILE?

A Master file is a file used to store information or records for a very long period of time.
For example: A customer file will have all details of a customer such as ID, name, address and
email.
WHAT IS A TRANSACTION FILE?

• A transaction file is used to hold data during transaction processing.

• For example: Job cards and purchase orders.

The identification numbers on the master file and the identification number on the transaction file are
compared. If these numbers are equal, the records are then processed with the smaller value being
processed first.

TYPES OF ERRORS THAT MAY OCCUR
DURING THE UPDATING OF A MASTER FILE.

Legacy Error- this is a flaw or problem that has been handed down from one staff to the other,
it can be a major issue occasionally replacing measures put in place when there is a lack of
control.

Data Transformation error- any situation that has been set up as an error or inconsistent mapping logic,
transformation errors are bound to happen. Evaluate the constraints on the transformation error.
If the error is not specified, the integration service keeps processing error rows which lengthens the
time of the session. To maximize performance use the error threshold to terminate the connection.
Lower the tracing level to increase efficiency if you are running a session with a lot of transformation
errors.
