Slight Fumes Were Observed On B-Phase LV side

Turret.
Standby Cooler Group was kept in service.
Drop by drop oil leakage is there on the same side
from 2 months.
IR was carried out and Hot Spots were Observed on LV
side turret.
B Phase- 1570 C & R Phase- 1080 C
Hot spots were suspected due to circulating Eddy
currents.
Earthing rod was connected from the hotspot area
bolt and the leakage current was 7.5 A.
Temp Reduced to 1100C from 1570C after the
arrangement.
Two Fans were Provided for Cooling purpose.
On 17th at 1000 Hrs, Earthing arrangement done
was R ph side.
Temp increased from 1200 C to 1270C On B-Ph.
R Ph was maintaining around 1020 C.
Leakage Currents- B ph-4.5 A and R ph-9 A.
For thin sheets:

For thin wires:

where: Bp - peak flux density(T),

d - thickness of the sheet or diameter of the wire (m),
ρ - resistivity (Ωm),
D - specific density of the material (kg/m3)

Infrared Thermography

Discovered in 1800 by
Sir Fredrick Herschel
Infrared Thermography
The wave length of IR energy is between
0.7 and 1000 micro meter.
IR is part of electromagnetic spectrum and
behaves similarly to visible light.
It travels through space at the speed of light and
can be reflected, refracted , absorbed and
emitted.
Infrared Thermography
 All objects emit IR radiation as a function of their temperature.

 IR energy is generated by the vibration and rotation of atoms and molecules.

 The higher the temperature of an object the more the motion and hence the

more IR energy is emitted.

 This is the energy detected by IR cameras.

 The cameras don’t see temperature, they detect thermal radiation

 At absolute zero (-273˚C ), material is at its lowest energy state so IR radiation

is at its lowest level.

Infrared Thermography

Thermography is the use

of an infrared imaging
and measurement camera
to "see" and "measure"
thermal energy emitted
from an object.

Usable From Coal Yard to Switchyard.

Valves, Insulation Monitoring, Air-ingress in boilers, Bunker

Fires, Coal Yard fires.

Bearings, Gear boxes, Pumps & Motors.

CTs, PTs, Circuit Breakers, LAs, Isolators.

Busducts, Generators, Exciters, Transformers, Switchgears,

Motors.
