balance.
The term “Cerebral”
is used because the
disorder impacts
the brain.
The term “palsy” is
used to describe
weakness or
muscular
problems.
What is the main cause of cerebral
palsy?

 Cerebral palsy is caused by abnormal brain


development or damage to the developing brain.
This usually happens before a child is born, but it can
occur at birth or in early infancy.
What are the early signs of cerebral
palsy?
 Developmental delays. The child is slow to reach milestones
such as rolling over, sitting, crawling, and walking. ...
 Abnormal muscle tone. Body parts are floppy or too stiff.
 Abnormal posture.

Can cerebral palsy be detected
during pregnancy?

 The answer is NO
 It can't be detected during pregnancy.
Can cerebral palsy be avoided?
 CP related to genetics is not preventable. However,
there are actions people can take before and during
pregnancy, as well as after birth that might help reduce
the risk of developmental problems, including CP.
