• Outdoor recreation, such as mountaineering, is a
growing recreational activity in the world and in the
Philippinines. It can consist of different activities such
as backpacking, climbing, hiking, or physical fitness
program via wilderness trips.

• Mountaineering, also called mountain climbing or hiking, is the sport
of attaining or attempting to attain, high points in mountainous
regions, mainly for the pleasure of the climb.
• Mountaineering is a growth area of adventure tourism.
• It is an Adventurous sport based on physical activity, challenge and
risk taking.
• Although public often cannot understand then reason why people
participate in outdoor activities like mountaineering, these are
activities are often engaged in because of some expected rewards.
• But what kind of rewards could be attained by risking one’s health
and safety during mountaineering?
• Some researchers consider that the goals and rewards of taking part in
mountaineering probably are working in a team and the close connection with the
natural environment.
• Overcoming a challenge by reaching the summit can also be seen as rewarding.
• Engaging in a regular moderate hiking increases a person’s overall health and
results in a longer life.

• Engaging in physical activity like mountaineering is very important for staying
healthy and fit.
• Mountaineering is one of the outdoor adventure activities that deals with
moderate to strenuous physical activity and can be a promoter for staying fit and
healthy.
• It can also aid in reducing the risk of different chronic diseases.

• Thus , the following physical benefits can get from this activity;

DISEASES
• Ischaemic heart disease is the top leading cause of death in the world with 8.76
million numbers of deaths ( WHO, 2025). Moreover, it still remained the leading
cause of death globally in the last 15 years.
• .While in the Philippines, disease of the heart and the Vascular system were
also the top 2 causes of death.
• Studies conducted by Centers for Disease Control revealed that through
physical exercise, individuals significantly lessen their chances for heart
problems, while those who do not engage in exercise are twice as likely to
have coronary heart disease.
• In mountaineering, we utilize both upper and lower muscle groups, Our abdominal and leg
muscles, lower and upper back, shoulders and arms, all get exercised as well as our fingers. It can
also have a positive impact on cardiovascular (CHD), musculoskeletal, metabolic, endocrine and
immune systems and has been shown to be effective in the prevention of several chronic diseases
such as diabetes, cancers hypertension and 0steoporosis.
