SLUICE GATE

INTRODUCTION

Sluice a water channel that is controlled at its head by a gate (from the
ducth world ‘’sluis’’). A sluice gate is traditionally a wooden or metal
plate that slide in groovers in the sides of the channel.
The simplicity of sluice gate design, construction, and operation plus
good safety and low maintenance costs result in them being among the
most common hydraulic structure to control measure flow of the water.
BACK GROUND OF THE STUDY

Sluice gate are common hydraulic structure for controlling and

regulating flow in open channels. This study investigates models
performance in distinguishing condition of flow regimes, estimating
the discharge coefficient and flow rate.
‘’Upstream’’ means the object is going opposite to the flow of water.
‘’ Down stream’’ means that the object is flowing along the river and
in this case add the speed.
RESEARCH PROBLEM TO BE
ADDRESSED

Problem to be addressed that each gate be equipped with adjustable

wedges. Wedges allow far gate adjustment and control leakage.
Wedges are typically used on both upstream and downstream side of
the gate and also available for the top and bottom of the gate.
OBJECTIVES

Observe flow pattern under a sluice gate.

• Determine the relationship between upstream head and
downstream.
• Determine the discharge coefficient.
IMPORTANCE

This studies about sluice gate were recognize to control the water
levels and flow rates in rivers from overflowing.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION

 This research was conducted to determine the status of water

quality to the pond .
 Sluice gate , their methods and strategies facilities forms of
problems and proposed solution to the problem.
METHODS AND MATERIALS

 Consider the flow of water though the sluice gate .The flow
velocity is uniform both far upstream and far downstream of the
gate.
 Use a moment balance on the indicated volume control to indicated
volume to determine the F force exerted by the gate on the fluid in
terms of H and V.
