 TOPIC-Nutrition in Plants

• Nutrition- The process of taking food and

its utilization by the body is called
nutrition.
 Modes of Nutrition

• There are two types of Nutrition –

1. Autotrophic Nutrition
2. Heterotrophic Nutrition
 Autotrophic Nutrition

Plants can directly use sunlight to prepare their

own food from simple raw materials such as
carbon dioxide, water and minerals. This mode
of nutrition is called autotrophic nutrition.
 Autotrophs

• Organisms that makes their own food are

called autotrophs. All green plants are
autotrophs.
 Photosynthesis
The process by which green plants
synthesize their food using carbon
dioxide and water in presence of
sunlight and chlorophyll is called
photosynthesis.
The requirements for photosynthesis are-

• Green Leaves
• Chlorophyll
• Sunlight
• Water and minerals
• Carbon Dioxide
 Heterotrophic Nutrition

• The mode of nutrition in organisms that can

not make their food and depend on others for
their food is called heterotrophic nutrition or
holozoic nutrition.
 Heterotrophs

Organisms which cannot make their

food and depend on others for their
food are called heterotrophs. E.g.
Bacteria, fungi and animals etc.
