Karyotype Analysis

Instructions: On the next slides, match homologous chromosomes and


arrange by size and banding pattern to diagnose a human disorder involving
abnormal numbers of chromosomes. You only need to complete ONE of the
karyotypes.

The sex chromosomes have


been colored pink (X) and
blue (Y) to help you find them.

There are three possible


disorders found in the
karyotypes:
● Down Syndrome (+21)
● Edward Syndrome (+18)
● Patau Syndrome (+13)

extra chromosome represented the condition known Trisomy, as there was an extra
chromosome in 13.

are and what the long term prognosis is for the person who has the disorder?

The long term prognosis is very straight forward, there are no symptoms as you are just born with it so
you usually die within a few days of birth.
