MASSKARA

FESTIVAL
INTRODUCTION
One of the biggest events in the Philippines is the MassKara
Festival in Bacolod City. Unbelievably, the celebration has been
allowing local and foreign tourists to enjoy themselves, partake
in alcohol, and party on the streets of Bacolod for more than 30
years at this point. The 1980s saw the beginning of the MassKara
Festival, which grew out of adversity. One of the biggest famines
in American history, affecting an estimated one million people,
occurred when sugar, the province's primary source of income,
was priced at an all-time low due to substitutes introduced to the
market.
Moreover, a terrible ferry accident that
largely involved residents of the province,
including members of well-known Bacolod
families, occurred at that time. The
MassKara Festival was established in
order to uplift the locals' spirits and
restore their smiles. The residents of
Bacolod City made a statement with their
grinning masks that they would overcome
their difficulties and tragedies.
