1.Introduction
 The antenna, often known as a device, is defined by the
IEEE Standard Definition of Terms for Antennas as "a tool
used in a mechanisms for emitting or receiving radio waves.

 Also antenna used as medium structure between empty

space and a guiding device, it can be line which coaxial.it is
used for delivering EM energy from transmitting antenna
to receiving antenna or vice-versa.

 Antennas are one of the most crucial parts of wireless

communication systems. An antenna with a suitable
design can reduce system requirements while also
improving overall performance.
2.Problem statement
 A phased array antenna with very costly phase shifters,
switches and filters are used extensively which makes
them unreachable for applications and make the system
complex and very expensive.

 But we have to solve these problem by using FSA

antennas in which the above component are not required
only by changing the path length of the feeding line and
achieve the desired beam scanning range

1
3. Significance of the study
 The biggest challenges of this thesis work is to provide
array antenna design that can be used for frequency
selective environment with increased beam steering
capacity and cover larger coverage area without using
phase shifter, filter and switches.

 Therefore cheaper, low cost and very simple antenna

design is the main significance of this thesis work.

6
4. Scope of the study
 In VANET making a real life experiment at larger scale
is very difficult and expensive because it requires
technological resources to install antennas, to deploy
and mount on board and road side units.

 Therefore the scope of this thesis work cannot be

beyond software simulation hence the mathematically
model and design antenna will be simulated using
Mathlab software.

5. Objective
General objective
 To design and performance analysis of Frequency Scanning
Microstrip Array Antenna for Vehicular Ad Hoc Network.
Specific objective
 To make mathematical modelling for patch antenna and
frequency scanning Microstrip array antenna.
 To Design a single Microstrip patch antenna using
frequency range from 22.5GHZ to 23GHZ.
 To make performance analysis between single, 2x1, 4x1
frequency scanning Microstrip patch antenna.
6.Literature review
A microstrip array antenna is currently they’re one of the most
common antenna type used widely. Because they are
lightweight, they may be utilized in a variety of applications
where surface volume is important. Fabrication in big
quantities will be simple since they demand a reduced cost.
They have several drawbacks, such as a narrow range band
width and limited power handling, however some of these may
be addressed by employing novel feeding techniques and
patch configurations [5].

7. Methodology
Material
 Typicaly software in antenna design and for analytical
modeling called matlab software can be used.

 The user of Matlab can potentially analyze statistics,

broaden algorithms or create models and packages.

 In this paper Matlab is used for analytical modeling.
