Independence Day
Independence Day is an American holiday celebrated on July
4th.
Before 1776, the United States were not a country, but 13
colonies governed by England.
The people were not happy with the government and there
were many conflits, which resulted in the American
Revolutionary War (1775 – 1783). During this time,
representatives of the thirteen original colonies – the
Founding Fathers, including George Washington, Thomas
Jefferson, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin – elaborated a
paper called the Declaration of Independence. Fifty-six
representatives of the colonies signed it.
With this paper, on July 4th, 1776, they declared their
Independence from England and formed the United States of
America.

arranged in nine offset horizontal rows of six stars alternating with rows of five stars.
