INTRODUCTION ON
MONOPOLISTIC AND RESTRICTIVE
TRADE PRACTICE ACT 1969
 MRTP ACT is designed to ensure that the operations of the economic system
does not result in concentration of the economic power to the common
detriment.

 It came in to force from 1st June 1970.

 This act also provides for probation of monopolistic , unfair and restrictive
trade practices.
The (MRTP ACT) Also regulates

Three types of prohibited trade practices

Monopolistic Trade Practice(MTP)

Restrictive Trade Practice(RTP)

Unfair Trade Practice(UTP)

DRAWBACKS OF MRTP ACT

 Poorly Resourced commission.

 Inadequacy in dealing effective with anticompetitive practice , due to


lack of definitions, cumbersome procedures and scare resources.

 Absence of specification of identifiable anti competition practices.

 Anti-competition practices like cartels ,predators pricing , rigging etc.


are not specifically mentioned in the MRTP ACT.
