INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES

We use the past simple, in its interrogative

form, to ask about situations that occurred and
finished in the past.
When we use the past simple in its interrogative
form, we start with did followed by the subject
and the verb in its base form (the sentence ends
with a question mark).
YES/NO QUESTION STRUCTURE
Auxiliar verb + subject+main verb+complement

For example:
“Did they work on an important project yesterday?” = The
sentence is in the past simple interrogative, so
we start with did and we use the base form of the
verb to work (work).
SHORT ANSWER

Afirmative: YES, THEY DID

Negative: NO, THEY DID NOT (NO, THEY
DIDN´T)
INFORMATION QUESTION OR WH
QUESTION
Wh Questions are a group of questions that
are characterized by the fact that they have
the letters "wh-" at the beginning in their
name, except for one of their cases. The Wh
Questions are:
• What : qué o cuál (What did you do last weekend? )
• Why : por qué (Why didn't you do your job?)
• When : cuándo (When did she arrive to Ipiales)
• Where : dónde (Where did you want to lunch? )
• Who : quién (Who did you buy this from?)
• Which : cuál (Which shirt did you like)
• How : cómo (How did she dance so well? )
Negative sentences
To make negative negative sentences in the
simple past we use the auxiliary ‘did not’ /
‘didn’t’ and the base form of the verb.
Structure:
Subject + did not + base form of verb +
object
For example:

I didn’t play football yesterday.
They didn’t go to the theater last month.
She didn’t arrive on time this morning.
