ILLNESS

• Rickets is the softening and weakening of bones in children, usually


due to extreme and long-term vitamin D deficiency. Rare hereditary
problems can also cause rickets.
CAUSES THE RICKETS
• It is a disorder caused by a lack of vitamin D, calcium or phosphorus.
This disorder leads to softening and weakening of the bones.
TYPES OF RICKETS
• Three different forms of rickets are distinguished: 1) due to vitamin
D deficiency; 2) various renal forms, resistant to vitamin D, including
chronic phosphate diabetes; 3) hypophosphatasia.

How to prevent rickets
• Prevention. You can prevent rickets by making sure your child gets
enough calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D in his diet. Children with
gastrointestinal or other disorders may need supplements prescribed
by the child's provider.
