Hydrographic and Topographic

survey of Important bridge, Major

Bridges and Minor bridges along
SilverLine

• Agency : RITES LTD

SCOPE OF WORK
• Bridges Up to Thrissur
• 01 Important bridge
• 35 Major bridges
• 280 Minor Bridges

Scope of study includes Topographical & Hydrographic Survey of

Major and Important Bridges and Hydrological Study for all
bridges
IMPORTANT BRIDGES
• Survey cover minimum distance of 8 km in
upstream side 2 km in downstream
• Cross section from bank to bank at 1000 m
interval with recording the levels on ground and
in water
• One Longitudinal section along the main channel
• Existing bridge or hydraulic structure across the
alignment in the vicinity
MAJOR BRIDGES
• Survey cover minimum distance of 2 km in
upstream side 2 km in downstream
• 5 Cross section from bank to bank one along
the BCL
• One Longitudinal section along the main
channel
• Existing bridge or hydraulic structure across
the alignment in the vicinity
HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEY
• Conduct hydrological study of entire corridor
and specially on important, minor, major
bridge location and depot at Kollam
• Substitute method for ensuring free flow of
water across SilverLine the construction
• To ensure SL corridor has to fulfill the
requirement of clearances of Inland waterway.
• Provide details for all type of bridge design
HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEY
• Recommend the provision of intermittent
bridges or viaduct at the critical flood
locations.
• Work out hydrological parametrs, peak
discharge
• All bridges shall be designed
• For Major bridge – 1 in 100 year
• For minor bridges – 1 in 50 year
HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEY
• Provide the details of HFL on all bridge
location
• While ascertain the span need to comment
due to criticality of site-specific location.
• Finalization of scour depth, design discharge,
silt factor
HYDROLOGICAL STUDIES OF BRIDGES

Calculations for determining design discharge

• RDSO’s RBF – 16
• CWC Flood Estimation Report (SUH Approach)
• Frequency Analysis Methods
i) Gumbel Method (ii) Log Pearson Method (iii) Chow Method

• Slope Area Method
