The document discusses researcher reflexivity in qualitative research. Researcher reflexivity refers to a researcher acknowledging how their own experiences and theoretical perspectives could impact the research process and findings. It involves reflecting on personal biases, values, and assumptions. By practicing reflexivity, researchers can identify potential biases, seek alternative perspectives, and establish trust with research participants. Reflexivity helps ensure qualitative research is rigorous, ethical and inclusive.

At its core, qualitative research enables researchers to gain a complete
understanding of a topic through truthful reporting and firsthand knowledge. To ensure the accuracy of this type of research, it is helpful to work with coded data, meaning that the information should be organized and labeled to identify various relationships and themes. Researcher reflexivity refers to the researcher's awareness and acknowledgement of their own experiential and theoretical standpoint in relation to their research. It involves reflecting on one's own personal biases, beliefs, values, and assumptions, and how these may impact the research process and findings. Experiential standpoint refers to the researcher's personal experiences, including their cultural background, social identity, and life experiences. Theoretical standpoint refers to the researcher's theoretical orientation, including their disciplinary background and theoretical frameworks they use to make sense of the research data. By acknowledging their experiential and theoretical standpoint, researchers can identify potential biases and blind spots in their research, and take steps to minimize these. This can include using multiple sources of data, seeking out alternative perspectives, and engaging in critical self-reflection throughout the research process. Reflexivity can also help researchers to establish rapport and build trust with participants, by demonstrating a willingness to listen to their perspectives and experiences, and acknowledging the power dynamics inherent in the research relationship. In summary, researcher reflexivity is an important aspect of qualitative research, as it enables researchers to critically examine their own assumptions and biases, and ensure that their research is rigorous, ethical, and inclusive.
