LAMINATE

A laminate is a material that can be constructed by uniting two or more

layers of material together. The process of creating a laminate is known
as lamination.

Most exterior grade High pressure decorative laminates (HPDL) are

entirely made up of layers of phenolic resin-impregnated cellulose
fibres with one or more decorative surfaces layers of cellulose fibres
impregnated with thermosetting resins.

HIGH PRESSURE LAMINATE (HPL)

The manufacturing process involves the combined application of heat

(150 °C) and high pressure (9 MPa) in multi-daylight presses in which
resin polycondensation takes place. *1MPa = 10.2 kg per sq cm

One or both sides can be decorative.

High-pressure laminates consists of laminates "moulded and cured at

pressures not lower than 1,000 lb per sq in. (70 kg per sq cm) and

{
more commonly in the range of 1,200 to 2,000 lb per sq in.
(84 to 140 kg per sq cm)
