What Is a Record Producer?
• He is the creative and technical lead of a recording project.
• He controls studio time and trains artists, and in popular genres.
• In most they are out of public view.
• Creative director: The producer sees the big picture in terms of how all
the songs on the album will fit together in one cohesive package
• Decision maker: A good producer will be the final caller in any creative
argument, especially one between band members.
Different Types of Music Producers
• Active music producers: Active producers are involved in all day-to-day
decisions, both creative and financial, as described above.

• Pasive music producers: Passive producers are more relaxed and leave
the day-to-day creative decisions to others (the artist, engineer, arranger,
project coordinator, etc.)

How To Become a Producer
• As long as someone believes you can do it, then you have joined the
production ranks.
• Usually there are two careers that they take which is to be a musician or
an engineer.
The Musician/Producer
• The way a musician becomes a producer is by spending a lot of time in
the studio and learning what works and what doesn't, either by trial and
error, through mentoring with a successful producer, or by constant
observation as a session musician or as an artist or band member making
a record.
