PLE stands for Portuguese as a Second Language and refers to the

and meaning in two or more languages. They can be a valuable resource

improving comprehension.
Definition of Cognates
Cognates can be classified into three types: true cognates, false cognates, and partial cognates. True cognates are words that are
spelled and sound alike in two or more languages and have the same meaning. False cognates are words that look and/or
sound similar in two or more languages but have different meanings. Partial cognates are words that have some similarity in
spelling or meaning but not both.
