Why is the study of ethics and technology
needed?

• The study of ethics and technology is needed in

order for us to know what is right or what is wrong,

what is ethical and unethical to do.

• Studying ethics is very important not only to

programmers or IT people but to all.


Overview

This course deals with the impact of computers


and technology on us as individuals and on our
society.
Course Objectives
After successfully completing this course, you will:

• Understand how computers and technology give rise to


social issues and ethical dilemmas

• Be able to discuss the benefits offered by computer and


technology in many different areas and the risks
associated these technologies

• Understand some, legal , political, and economical issues


related to computers and the historical background of
these issues
• Understand ethical issues a person might encounter as a
computer professional, on the job.

Course Requirements
-Most of the issues discussed in this course do not have simple

answers that everyone will agree with. An important part of the

course will be discussing the issues and debating various points

of view.

- Each students Group will make a presentation at the class on

some topic related to the course.

- There will be a midterm exam and a final exam.


Grading Policy
Your course grade will be calculated
(approximately) as follows:

– Presentation 20%

– Midterm exam 20%

– Final exam 60%
