 is anything made or done by men that affects or move
us so that we may feel and see beauty.
 Art is from an Italian word artis defined as human
creative skill.
ELEMENTS OF ART
The elements of design are the basic
components used as part of any composition.

They are the objects to be arranged,


the constituent parts used to create
the composition itself.

1. Line- refers not only to the contour, but


also to the areas or shape created by it.
Use to show the direction of
motion ;define the forms of bounded
spaces.
CLASSIFICATION OF LINES

a. Straight line-drawn continuously in fixed


direction; the shortest distance between
two points.

b.Curved Line- drawn continuously in a


changing direction throughout its length.

intensity

2. Radiating line-signifies concentration, explosion


and sudden burst.

3. Spiral line- symbolizes forces,


generativeness,genesis,gracefulness.

2. Form-the arrangement of lines in a


way that is orderly and purposeful
the result of which is always
harmonious and pleasing.

3. VALUE-deals with the treatment of


light and dark or white to black in design.
Highlight is the lightest value.
Shadow is the dark value.
The light color of a value is a tint.
The dark color of a value is a shade.
4.Color-is the quality of an object or substance
with respect to light reflected by it and usually
determined visually by measurement of hue,
saturation and brightness of the reflected light,

Hue- it is the particular identify of the color.
It is classified into two: warm is red and yellow is
dominant ;cool when blue is the dominant color.
Value-it denotes the lightness and darkness of
color.
Intensity-It denotes the brightness and dullness of
the color.
CLASSIFICATION OF COLORS
Primary Color-All colors produced by combining any of
the two colors. They are the colors RED, YELLOW, and
BLUE.

Secondary Color- They are the colors GREEN, VIOLET


and ORANGE.

Tertiary Color- They are produced by combining


equal mixture of secondary color such as YELLOW
ORANGE, BLUE GREEN and RED VIOLET.
COLOR HARMONY

It is the right combination and arrangement


of colors for pleasing appearance.
5. SPACE
Is an art element which is concerned with
making all parts functional so that all parts of the
work of art will contribute to make the whole a
complete work of art.
Pictorial space is the space of the surface area.

Illusory space is the depth.

Positive space is created by objects that are seen


as a main element appearing to be in front of the
background.

Negative Space- is the area that surrounds the


shapes.
6.Texture-is a color element that deals more
directly with the sense of touch.
