introduction

 Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq was born on 12 August 1924_17


August 1988 and he was a four star rank Army General
who served as a 6th president of Pakistan from 1978 until
his death in 1998 after declaring martial law in 1977.

 He was Pakistan’s longest-serving head of state.


 On 1st April 1976, in a surprise move then prime minister of Pakistan
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto appointed Zia ul haq as the chief of Army staff,
superseding five senior general.

 When political condition reach its climax due to the dead lock of
Bhutto and the leadership Pakistan national alliance on the issue of
general elections.

 On July 5 1977 he carried out a bloodless coup overthrowing


Bhutto’s government and enforced martial law.

From 1979 a series of Islamic laws were introduced in Pakistan:


 In 1979, a Federal Shariat court was set up.

 Huddod ordinance was promulgated on the country in 1977.


According to the Huddod ordinance different punishments were
prescribed for different crimes.

 The punishment of disrespect to prophet (SAW) was also


introduced.
 Zia also introduced The Court Of Islamic ideology to suggest ways in
which the legal framework of Pakistan could be brought closer Islamic
Ideology.

 In June, 1980 the zakat ordinance imposed a 2.5% wealth tax on


saving over a certain amount.

 Islamiyat and Pak study were made compulsory in schools and


colleges.

 Zia also participate in defending Makkah he did a great job


for all Muslim country.

 He was the first Pakistani who perform a pray in Makkah


in place of Imam.

 He works for women and Muslims rights.


ZIA’S GOVERNMENT

 He made Pakistan as the second largest supplier of Military


manpower in the developing world.

 His Government denationalized many of the company that Bhutto’s


government had nationalized.

 Laws were passed that remained nationalized were reformed in an


attempt to make them more efficient.

Zia ul haq died in plane crash on 17th of August 1988 near


Bahawalpur. Zia ul haq including the US Ambassador, chief
of the us military mission in Pakistan and a group of senior
officer from Pakistan army were onboard.
