He is also Head of the body, the

church; and He is the Beginning,

the Firstborn from the dead, so
that He Himself will come to have
first place in everything. NASB
JESUS is our Head – He is The Supreme
Master. He is the One in charge!
The Head is absolutely essential to the life of
the body
 the church is the body of Jesus –
1 Cor.12:27
The Head gives much of the body:
a. DIRECTION
Ephesians 5:1 - Follow God’s
example, therefore, as dearly
loved children
b. GOALS AND PLANS –
James 4:14-15 - Why, you do not even
know what will happen tomorrow. What is
your life? You are a mist that appears for a
little while and then vanishes. Instead, you

ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will

live and do this or that.”
c. USEFULNESS –
Eph. 2:10 - For we are God’s

handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do

good works, which God prepared in advance
for us to do.
2 Cor. 4:7 - But we have this treasure in jars
of clay to show that this all-surpassing
power is from God and not from us.
d. EXISTENCE –
1 John 5:12 - Whoever has the Son
has life; whoever does not have
the Son of God does not have life.
John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God.
Colossians 1:16-17 - For in him all things were
created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or
authorities; all things have been created through him
and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things
hold together
He is the Beginning - He is the
"One with whom it all started."
Everything had its beginning in Him!
He is the beginning of all the
creation of God.
He is the Firstborn – Greek word
“protokos.”  We get our English word
“Prototype” from it.
It refers “something having the essential
features of a subsequent type, and on which
later forms are modeled.
Colossians 1:15 - He is the image of the
invisible God, the firstborn of all
creation.
Revelation 1:5 - and from Jesus Christ,
the faithful witness, the firstborn of the
dead, and the ruler of the kings of the
earth. To Him who loves us and released
us from our sins by His blood
CONCLUSION:
 Matthew 16:13-16
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi,
13

he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of

Man is?”14 They replied, “Some say John the
Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or
one of the prophets.”15 “But what about you?” he
asked. “Who do you say I am?”16 Simon Peter answered,
“You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.
