INTRODUCTION
There are five (5) Macro skills that we must
deal within order to communicate effectively.
Macro skills refer to the primary, key, main and
largest skill set relative to a particular context. It
is commonly referred to in English language.
 MACRO SKILLS
The 5 macro skills of communication

Listening
Speaking
Reading
Writing
Viewing
 Listening
Listening is the ability to accurately
receive and interpret messages in the
communication process. This
communication technique that requires
the listener to understand, interpret and
evaluate what he or she hears.
There are 3 modes of listening:

 Attentive
 Responsive
 Active
 Speaking
Speaking skill is the ability to
communicate orally and
effectively. It is the process of
building and sharing meaning
through the use of verbal and
non-verbal symbols, in a
variety of context.
TYPES OF SPEAKING SKILLS

There are three (3) types of speeches which enhances

the speaking skills.

SPEECHES THAT INFORM:

Explain, clarity, report

SPEECHES THAT PERSUADE:

Designed to convince or influence belief or attitude

SPEECHES THAT ENTERTAIN:

Use humor to influence the audience
KINDS OF SPEAKING SKILLS

There are some kinds of speaking situation in

which we find ourselves.

 INTERACTIVE
 PARTIALLY INTERACTIVE
 NON INTERACTIVE
 Reading
 Reading is the process of
looking at series of written
symbols and getting meaning
from them. It can also
develop the ability to
comprehend.
There are five (5) aspect to the process of reading:

 PHONICS
 Phonemic awareness
 Vocabulary
 Reading comprehension
 Fluency
 Writing
Writing skills is the ability to
communicate the message with
clarity and ease through symbols
and signs. It is the first thing to build
your active vocabulary. It helps to
understand the text and write
compositions.
Writing process has 3 major steps:

 Pre-writing
 Writing
 Post-writing
 Viewing
Viewing- is the fifth macro-skill
today. It refers to perceiving,
examining, interpreting, and
construction meaning from visual
images and is crucial to improving
comprehension of print and non-
print materials.
Active viewers engage in the following procedure:

 Pre-viewing
 During viewing
 After viewing/ responding
 IMPORTANCE OF MACRO
SKILLS
 Learning and consistently seeking improve
these macro skills are important for effective
communication, to understand with each other
and to be successful in many different
perspectives.
