Research is the process of systematically obtaining accurate answers to
significant questions by the use of scientific method of gathering and
interpreting data.

RESEARCH report
Research report is a formal statement of the research process and its result.
It narrates the problem studied, methods used for studying it and the findings and
conclusions of the study.
It means of communicating research experience to others.
It serve as a basic reference material for future use.

1. Technical Report:
• This is a comprehensive report of the research process and its outcome, it covers all the
aspects of research process.
• It is mainly meant for academic community.
2. Popular Report:
• Type of report designed for an audience of executives and other non-technical users.
• In this case the reader is not interested in the findings of the study.
• After brief introduction to the problem and the objectives of the study, an abstract of the
findings the study, conclusion and recommendations are presented.
3. Interim Report:
• Reports are used in researches which take too much time Some times there may be time lag
between data such case the study collection and presentation of the results.
• Under such circumstances an interim report can narrate what has been done so far and what
was its outcome.
4. Summary Report
• It meant for general public.
• It is written in non-technical, simple language with pictorial chart that just contains objectives,
findings and its implications,
• It is a short report of less than 10 pages
5. Research Abstract
• Abstract is a short summary of technical report. Usually it is prepared by a doctoral student
just before submitting his thesis,
• It contains a brief presentation of the statement of the problem, the objectives of the study,
methods and techniques used and an overview of the report.
6. Research Article
• Research Article is designed for publication in a professional journal. It must be clearly
written in concise and unambiguous language.
• It must be logically organized, progressing from a statement of the problem and the purpose of
study, through the analysis of evidence, to the conclusion and implications.

1) The preliminary pages

It gives introduction to the researcher and research work. It incudes';


a)Title page:
It gives details regarding title of report, name and address of the researcher or organisation that is
conducting the research, the name of the client or the organisation to whom the report is to be
submitted and the date of submission
b)Preface:
• It states the usefulness of the project report
• It may explain about history, scope, methodology, importance of study in the field of knowledge
c)Letter of authorisation:
It is a letter from the client to the researcher authorising him to conduct the research
d)Table of contents:
• It give an analytical overview of material included in the study report.
• It shows chapter headings, sub headings and sub divisions.
e)List of tables and figures:
It gives a list of graphs, tables and figures.
2) Main body of the report
The main and major part of the report is known as the main body of the [Link] contains all the

i) Introduction
Introduction
This is the first chapter in the body of the research [Link] is devoted for introducing the

ii) Design of the study


This part of the report is used for presenting all the aspects of the methodology and their

Limitations of the study

iii) Results of findings and discussions


• The result should be reported as accurately and completely as possible.
• Every chart/table should be self contained and self explanatory unit.
• Findings are statements of factual information based upon the analysis of the data

iv) Summary, conclusions and recommendation


• Summary may be more or less a reproduction of the various findings and conclusions
presented in the main body
• Conclusions are generalisation drawn from the findings, they are the answers to the research
question
• Recommendation should flow from the findings and conclusion.
3. End section
The end section contains all the information that supports the main body of the researcher .
It includes;
Bibliography – it is the list of all sources arranged in alphabetical order that the researcher
has used while conducting research.
Appendix - The appendix contains al the technical information., The main documents
included in appendix are-
Copies of data collection instruments like interview schedule or questionnaire used for study.
Technical details on sampling plans
Long primary tables
Supporting documents and any other evidence that backup the details of the report.
Glossary
It is an alphabetical arrangement of new terms used in the report.
