DATA STORAGES

SECONDARY STORAGE: Secondary storage device refers to an non volatile storage

device that is internal or external to the computer
*This storage device enables permanent data storage.
TYPES OF SECONDARY STORAGES:
1.Hard drive
2.Solid state drive
3.Universal serial bus
4.Optical secondary storage
UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS :

* Universal serial bus is also used as normal terms USB.

*USB is a common interface that enables

communication between devices and personal comptures.

*It connects peripheral devices such as digital cameras,

mice, key boards, printer, external hard devices and flash devices.

*The USB has replaced a wide range of interfaces like

the parallel and serial port.
*USB is intended to enhance plug-and-play and allow hot swapping.

*Hot swapping allows removal and replacement of a new peripheral

without having any reboot.

*There are several types of USB connectors:

1.type A:

*The USB 2.o standard is type A ; it has a flat rectangle interface

that inserts into a hub or USB host which transmits data and power
supplys.

2.type B:

*The mini USB or mini-B is called as type B ; it has been abanded

in favor of the micro USB and USB-C cables.
OPTICAL SECONDARY STORAGE :

*Electronic storage medium that uses low-power laser beems to

record and retrieve digital data.

*In optical-storage technology, a laser beam encodes digital data on

to an optical, or laser, disk in the form of tiny pits arranged in a spiral track
disk’s surface.

*A low-power laser scanner is used to “read”, these pits, with

variations in the intensity of reflected light.

*This technology is used in the compact disc (CD)which records

sound ;in the CD-ROM (compact disc read only memeory)
