LIVING IN THE IT ERA
INTRODUCTION
Technology plays an important role in our society.
The use of technology has grown significantly,
dominating every part of our lives, as it altered the
way we behave and function. Through the use of
technologies, individuals are now able to extend
the reach of their bodies, hands, and brains, cross
rivers, and travel across continents in order to
fulfill their needs and wants. The finest thing is
that it always improves by enabling more complex
functions.

servant but a dangerous
master”

EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGICAL
Global poverty hasADVANCEMENT
been gradually decreasing over time, mostly
due to improved productivity brought on by technical
advancement. Access to energy, electricity, sanitation, and clean
water have transformed the lives of billions. We can now work
together to solve issues on a worldwide scale due to
transportation, telephones, and the internet. Since machines
operate far more quickly than people do, they can complete jobs
that would otherwise take a tremendous amount of physical labor
and attention to detail. As it has a lot of positive effects, we know
that its also has a negative effect.

Technologies, such as social media are meant to bring
people together, yet they can have the opposite effect. It
may result in less quality face-to-face interaction but
may also help individuals stay connected. One of the
worst effects of technology on our pupils is that it is
systematically destroying their social skills and making
them want to isolate themselves. They are readily
addicted to technology, which leads them to utilize it
more frequently.

NEGATIVE
EFFECTS
OF TECHNOLOGICAL
ADVANCEMENT
Overuse or dependence on technology may have adverse
psychological effects. In a 2017 study entitled “Social Media Use and
Perceived Social Isolation Among Young Adults in the U.S.”,
participants in the highest quartile of social media use had double the
odds of experiencing increased perceived social isolation in fully
adjusted multivariable models with survey weights when compared to
those in the lowest quartile. In a comparable manner, individuals in the
top quartile of social media usage frequency had more than three times
the odds of having higher Perceived Social Isolation compared to those
in the lowest quartile. Associations were linear, and all sensitivity
analyses produced results that were unaffected.
