Learning Target:

➤Be able to explain the meaning of the concept of

sustainable development

➤Be able to determine the importance of sustainable

development; and

➤Be able to assess the challenges in achieving the

sustainable development.
WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT?
SUSTAINABILITY
➤ Allof us need is dependent or may dictate
our faith by nature.

DEVELOPMENT
➤ Progressive development or transformation
of economy and society towards improvement
of human life.
The sustainable development refers to the
development that responds to the need of
current generation that cannot be set aside
the ability to address the next generation
needs.
BEFORE

➤ Increase of GDP and GNP of the country

➤ Big and tall buildings
➤ High number of job in the country
➤ No child will be hungry
➤ The United Nation is a
international organization which was
formed after the World War II. It
aims to have unity and a better
world.

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES
THAT FACE OF ACHIEVING
SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT?
1. CAPITALISM AND INDUSTRIALIZATION
2. POPULATION EXPLOSION
3. INCOME INEQUALITY
CAPITALISM
➤ It refers to income appreciation that can be
obtained from those goods.
IRRESPONSIBLE IF……….

➤ Natural resources are only visible ingredients.

➤ Business is unplanned, wasteful, and dirty in nature.
➤ When the business owner doesn't care about nature.
INDUSTRIALIZATION
➤ It refers to continuous increasing jobs and
businesses in the country and world.
POPULATION
EXPLOSION

➤ It refers to continuous population

growth in the country and
throughout world

INCOME INEQUALITY
➤ This refers to continuous growth income

Population Growth
Population growth is the increase in the number of people in a
population or dispersed group. Actual global human population
growth amounts to around 83 million annually, or 1.1% per year. The
global population has grown from 1 billion in 1800 to 7.9 billion in
2020.
Climate Change and
Environmental Shocks
The climate crisis is changing weather patterns and increasing the
chances of extreme events such as hurricanes, funds, and
droughts. it is so responsible for changing and polluting entire
ecosystems, compromising biodiversity and destroying harvests.
All these events have a huge impact a food production as they
significantly me the quality, availability, and accessibility of
resources and compromise the stability of food systems around
the world.
Population Increase and
the Modern Food System

By 2050, estimates predict that the total number of people living on Earth will reach
nearly 10 billion. More people on the planet means more mouths to feed and this can
put a strain on its resources as the modern agricultural system is already struggling to
meet global needs. According to the 2020 IPCC Special Report on climate change,
since 1961, food supply per capita has grown more than 30%. As a consequence of
this, the use of nitrogen fertilisers and water needed to boost agricultural production
have increased by a staggering 800% and 100% respectively.
Disruptions in the Food Chain
Two recent catastrophic events have heavily compromised the global
food chain, sparking changes in consumers' demand, leading to the
sudden closure of food production facilities, restricting food trade
policies, and adding financial pressure on the food system. Combined,
these factors have led to shortages of food supplies and an increase in
the number of people facing hunger and malnutrition.
Sustainability development goal
Sustainable Development Goal 2 aims to achieve "zero hunger".
It is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established
by the United Nations in 2015. The official wording is: "End
hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and
promote sustainable agriculture".
