It can be defined as collected oral and written

works of a society that depict the people’s


beliefs, values, morals and aspirations, as
well as their struggles in life.
Elements of literature
Literary works are grouped under two

categories: imaginative literature and non-


fiction.

Elements of short story

Plot
It is the skeletal structure of the story. It consists of events
which are arranged in a meaningful sequence.
Setting
It refers to the time and the place of the actions which
provides the background to the events and actions of the
characters.
Characterization
Charaters cause the events in the plot or the incidents.
Style
It is the characteristic manner of expression, the habitual
manner in which a writer expresses himself.
Point of view
It is how the story is narrated, the vantage point from which
the characters, actions and events are seen.
