• It refers to a network of interconnected computers and devices that

are located in close physical proximity to each other, such as within a
home, office, or a small geographic area like a school or a campus.
• The main application of LAN is to aid its users in resource sharing.
• Hardware and Software, both can be shared through LANs.
• In a LAN, a singular computer is designated as the file server, which
stores all the software that controls the network along with the
software shared across the other computers.

Unlike a LAN (Local Area Network), which covers a limited

geographical area such as a single building or a campus, a
WAN spans a much larger geographic area, often spanning
across cities, countries, or even continents.
WANs link multiple computers for efficient transfer of data at
low capital and higher speeds.
Computers that are connected to WANs are often connected
through public networks such as the telephone system and
sometimes through leased lines.

It is a type of network that covers a larger geographic area

than a Local Area Network (LAN) but is smaller in scale
compared to a Wide Area Network (WAN). A MAN typically
spans a city or a large metropolitan area and is used to
connect multiple LANs within that geographic region.
In recent times, this term has become irrelevant.

It is the smallest type of network, typically covering a very

short range and designed for personal use by an individual or
a small group of devices. PANs are used to connect devices
like smartphones, laptops, tablets, wearables, and other
personal devices to communicate and share data with each
other.
It can be used to transfer e-mails, calendar appointments,
digital photos and videos etc
