What is a Strategic Plan

organization ( territory).
• A strategic plan comes from an organization's process of defining its

• Background and Description of the Territory
• Country Context
• Mission statement
• Vision statement
• Core Values/ Guiding Principles
• SWOT Analysis or Strategic Concerns Analysis
• Priority or Key Focus Areas
• SMART Objectives
• Detailed Action Plan
• Financial Projections
• Evaluation and Review Methods
Benefits of a Strategic Plan

• Identifies Priorities.

• Focuses decision making.
• Enhances communication and teamwork.
• Creates measurable success
Where do Strategic Plans go wrong?

• If the goals and objectives you set are unrealistic.

• A successful strategic plan requires commitment - everyone needs to be focused carrying out the strategic plan.
• Poor communication and irresponsible utterances among the leading team (LOs and COs)
• Lack of leadership at every level.
• Trying to solve all the problems instead of prioritizing issues.
• Thinking strategic plan is about growth and increase only – sometimes it about rebranding or consolidation.
• Using wrong measures of progress.
• Focussing on unnecessary detail and expectations.
• Failure to recognise changes in your operating environment
• Failure to align resources (finances mostly) to priority areas.
• When it is an agenda item instead of the source of the agenda.
