The birth of a baby is an incredibly significant event. For some

As Christians, we have the privilege of knowing the Author of
childbirth. So how might that change the way we approach it?
Let’s Engage our mind.
Observe the following then discuss the questions which follows.
Discuss the following. BIRTH
CULTURE

· How long does it take for the pregnant woman to give birth?
· What are some of the things she experiences during her
pregnancy?
· Is she expected to eat special foods during her pregnancy?
· Does she have to visit the doctor regularly?
Conduct research using your science book about
pregnancy. See if you can find out how a woman
becomes pregnant and the various developmental
stages of the foetus or the unborn child.
Short Voyage

2. How do religions view birth?
3. What preparations will they make for the
baby before it is born?
Students will talk freely about the beliefs that we embrace in Jamaica, which
surrounds birth and infancy.

Education Workbook , page 9.
Read the information on the slide
which follows, then share what
would happen to someone who
mistreats and allows harm to
come to an unborn child.
Summary
Most world religions such as Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Hinduism
consider a child to be a gift from God. Judaism does not consider the
foetus a human being, before birth, the foetus is seen by Jewish people
as partial human being. Although they hold this belief, they still
condemn harmful actions against mother and foetus by using scriptures
in the Torah. (The Torah is a part of the Jewish holy book, the TeNaKh,)
Jews believe that all pregnant women are equal. They believe that
pregnant women are beautiful and that pregnancy is a challenge and a
destiny.
Debate the moot in two
groups.
“Be it resolved that a
foetus is a human being”
