The autonomic drugs may be classified into the following
categories, namely :
(a) Sympathomimetic Drugs.
(b) Antiadrenergic Drugs.
(c) Cholinomimetic Drugs.
(d) Antimuscarinic Drugs.
(e) Ganglionic Blocking Agents.
(f) Adrenergic Neurone Blocking Agents.
Epinephrine; Adrenaline

1-hydroxy-2-(methylamino)ethyl]benzene-1,2-diol
PROPRANOLOL

(RS)-1-(1-methylethylamino)-3-(1-naphthyloxy)propan-2-ol
SALBUTAMOL

(1, 3-Benzenedimethanol)
4-[2-(tert-butylamino)-1-hydroxyethyl]-2-(hydroxymethyl)phenol
Synthesis of R-salbutamol reported recently in the literature is that
starting the corresponding R-cyanohydrin. This introduces a N-tert-
butyl group via the Ritter reaction followed by hydrogenation and
deprotection
Another method

Acylation of methyl ester salicylic acid using bromoacetyl chloride gives 4-hydroxy-3-
acetoxybromoacetophenone. This is reacted with N-benzyl-tert-butylamine, and the
resulting product is completely hydrolyzed by lithium aluminum hydride into N-benzyl
substituted derivative, the benzyl group of
which is removed by hydrogen over a palladium catalyst to give Salbutamol
(RS)-1-(Isopropylamino)-3-[4-(2-methoxyethyl)phenoxy]propan-
2-ol
