Understanding the key concept (Aesthetics)
Aesthetics, being a set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation of beauty, will be our key
driving factor in this unit..

What is really behind the beauty of nature?

We will also get to research on artistic styles concerning nature and how we can represent the beauty of nature in
our artworks, or rather how artists intent to apply aesthetics or the beauty of nature in their artworks.

Beauty is something we perceive and respond to. It may be a response of awe and amazement, wonder and joy,
or something else. It might resemble a “peak experience” or an epiphany. It might be watching a sunset or taking
in the view from a mountaintop.

UNDERSTANDING THE RELATED CONCEPT
(Interpretation)
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, interpretation means an explanation of what something
means. Interpretation of different information ,ideas , culture , artworks and elements of nature
vary from people to people and place to place . The interpretation of an artwork my depend on
the viewers cultural background or identity.
For example one person can interpret an artwork of a volcanic eruption as a fire over a mountain
because he or she has never heard of it.
Therefore, each person's perception of any given event will be unique, which explains why
people can have such differing memories of the same event
UNDERSTANDING THE GLOBAL CONTEXT
(Personal and cultural expression)

Personal and cultural expression explores the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings,
nature culture, beliefs and values.
It also includes the exploration into the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our
appreciation of the aesthetic( the way things look).
This global context is generally about creativity and forms of expression. It is also about seeing things from
different points of view.
For example an artwork can reflect the culture of a particular group or represent what is beautiful to the
artist.
UNDERSTANDING THE STATEMENT OF INQUIRY
(The observation of leads to creative expression)

Many a times we have heard that inspiration in art can be drawn from the most obscure of places. Art can be
inspired by observation of the immediate environment. This plays a major part in the working of the creativity.
Creative individuals tend to do observations in order to get inspiration. Observation is a key component in the
development of creative .

A famous art that was inspired by nature, is the scream, whereby it is postulated that the blood red sky is in fact
the described nacreous clouds at the latitude of Norway. Other assumptions are that during the time of the
painting of the scream there was a huge eruption that had occurred in Krakatoa, which must have made the
sky blood red. This is by far an example of art inspired by nature through observation. Although, his source of
inspiration is debatable, it is by far the best explanation of the blood red sky as an inspiration.
UNDERSTANDING THE STATEMENT OF INQUIRY

In our statement of inquiry we are compelled to explore, inquire and find out the ways in which
observation and imagination can be harnessed and integrated into a beautiful piece of art. Observation
from every inquiry made, is a source of inspiration to many artists. Nature provides a wide variety of
inspirational visuals that can serve as an imagination stimuli, they simply aid the creative process in
coming up with a visually appealing product that has both observation and imagination to give
gratitude to.
Appealing to aesthetics, we can conclude that nature surely contains unimaginable arts

Another worthy artist, who his painting has proven to have its inspiration from nature is Vincent Van
Gogh's starry night. It is said to have depicted the view from the asylum Van Gogh was in. During this
time he had been suffering from epilepsy which had accompaniment of hallucinations.

How has nature been represented in art?

Nature has been dominant in modern artworks. From the use of simple colours to
represent the natural world. Nature in art can be as simple as adding more paint to
something to convey a sense of depth or perspective. Most artwork has
backgrounds, this backgrounds contains either mountains , trees, water bodies or
other natural factors . By doing this artists are able represent nature in their
artworks.

TO WHAT EXTEND DOES ART INSPIRED BY NATURE ENCOURAGE AUDIENCES TO
PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT?

● Art involving nature can be done simply to display the beauty of the natural world around us , to make
scientific observations in an environment, or to open our own connection to nature and beyond. Art is
very subjective and for this reason it can be used to resonate our values together with our cultures in
order to make an impact on the environment. Art in every culture is diverse and unique. If one can be
able to use this advantage to the best of their ability, they can appeal to the values of the individuals to
take care of the environment, through affirming their values culture-wise.
How does nature provide limitless subject matter?
● Nature the physical world and everything in it (such as plants, animals,
mountains, oceans, stars, etc.) that is not made by people. This means that there
is more than enough to explore. Everyday natural phenomena occur in different
places of the world. This brings us new ideas to explore daily.
