History
it is a very old breed .It was originally developed by 18th-century breeding innovator Robert BakewellLeicester
Longwool sheep are currently found in Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Sweden and the United States.

Origin
The Leicester Longwood is an English breed of sheep
originated in the Leicester region of England

Purpose of use:
Wool and meat production

Appearance Characteristics

 Colors: white, but black, dark brown, and dark gray Longwools occur.
 Size : described as a medium to large breed with a large, high quality carcass.
 Head: not too high and should have no signs of horns on the poll (forehead).
 Face: wedge shape, covered in white hairs and can appear to have a blue tinge.
 Lips and nostrils : should be black.
 Ears : Having black specks on the face and ears is not objectionable.
 Neck : medium length.
 Shoulders : should be strong and level with the back, which should be flat.
 Legs :should be straight and wide apart and the hooves should be black

Production characteristics

Weight :
Mature rams range from 140 pounds to 330 pounds;
Mature ewes range from 110 pounds to 220 pounds.

Wool :
The fleece is long, curly, lustrous and heavy, with staple lengths from 8 to 14 inches..
Fleeces weigh from 11-15 lbs. They can be shorn twice a year.
