FITNESS COMPONENTS
BODY COMPOSITION
• Used to describe the contents of your body.
• Having the knowledge of the measurements of these
components will help you understand how your body
works and what should you do in order to attain your
health and fitness goals.
• The body mass index, or BMI for short, gives you an
estimate of your body fat percentage.

CARDIOVASCULAR FITNESS
• Ability of the heart and lungs to provide oxygen to
working muscles during long periods of physical
activity.
• If a person gets tired after just a short walk or a short
run, it may mean that he or she has a loc CV fitness
level.
• Aerobic exercises are a primary example. Walking,
running, cycling, swimming and hiking are all
examples of aerobic exercises.
Fitness Testing
• Warm up, then walk 1 mile as fast as you can
without straining. Record your time to the
nearest second.
• Immediately after the walk, count your heart rate
for 15 seconds, then multiply by 4 to get a 1 –
minute rate. Record your heart rate.
• Use your walking time and your post-exercise
heart rate to determine your rating.
FLEXIBILITY
• The ability of a muscle and/or joint to
move through its full range of motion.
• It allows the joint or muscle to stretch
more without discomfort or pain.
• If a person is flexible, he or she has a
decreased risk of injury.
